Eye health is an essential part of our school health program and is comprehensive and responds to the relevant range of eye conditions and diseases prevalent in the focus areas. The school eye health program is planned to provide comprehensive eye health services to the students and staff of the focus schools of FE&MT in particular and other schools in general. Access to eye care for an increasing number of school-age children is critically important. Considering that 80% (estimated) of what a child learns is processed through the visual system, good vision is critical to the child’s ability to participate in and benefit from educational experiences. In that respect, improving the vision of schoolchildren contributes to improved education status, which in turn leads to better health in adult age. The team plans annual eye screening camps at all the focus schools and 100% of the students and staff are being screened. Those having issues with their eyes are referred to our eye care center for advanced treatment.
